A NEW fight to keep jobs in the Illawarra has emerged after a brutal state mini-budget announced the sale of a key public sector office in Wollongong and the closure of Keelong Juvenile Justice Centre at Unanderra.
Illawarra MPs say they have been guaranteed 600 jobs at Pillar, a publicly owned super funds administrator, will stay in the city. But no assurances were given in the mini-budget papers.Wollongong MP Noreen Hay has also pleaded with Premier Nathan Rees not to close Keelong, where 100 people are employed. Also of concern is what will happen to Illawarra jobs with the sale of power retailer Integral Energy. The mini-budget introduced new tolls and parking levies for commuters in Sydney among a raft of tough decisions.
